Hands-on natural resource education for Vermont high school students

The Vermont Envirothon is a state-wide competition where high school students put their knowledge of forestry, wildlife, soils and water resources to the test. The team that demonstrates the greatest overall knowledge is selected to represent Vermont at the North American Envirothon event held this upcoming year in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University on July 20-26, 2025. The current issue topic for the 2025 competition is Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change. Over 2,000 Vermont students have participated in Envirothon since it began in 1996. We hope your school might join us in 2025 by registering a team. 

Envirothon provides an opportunity for students to participate in hands-on STEM learning and connect with professionals in the fields of soil & water conservation, wildlife, forestry and agriculture. Some science teachers have chosen to incorporate studying for the Envirothon into their curriculum, while other coaches use the event as an opportunity to strengthen the public speaking skills of their students.

Teams are composed of five students in grades 9-12 coordinated by one coach, typically a teacher or parent. A training day will be offered in 2025 with more details to come.

Each coach will receive a packet of digital and print resources to help them prepare. Each participant will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
