The Orleans County NRCD hosted a workshop on Tuesday, September 24 at Crystal Lake State Park in Barton with presentations by the OCNRCD, Vermont DEC, and the Northwoods Stewardship Center. The workshop focused on best management practices for shoreland projects with a hands-on demonstration on coir log uses and installation. Coir logs, affectionately nicknamed “dirt tacos” by the demonstration team, help slow down stormwater erosion along slopes, trap sediment, create planting benches, and reinforce the base of the shoreline. The workshop gathered local professionals, including excavators, landscape architects, and other land stewards, fostering productive discussions on how to integrate these practices into their projects and initiate conversations about shoreline conservation with their clients.
